Art Exhibit: Beth Wheeler & Herb Folsom – Custom Calligraphy & Frame
Jul 1 | 10:00 am - Jul 31 | 6:00 pm
Custom Calligraphy & Frame got its start in 1991 after Beth started taking calligraphy classes and needed her art framed. Beth continues this life-long passion by attending workshops at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico nearly every summer, learning from the finest calligraphers in the world. She has also studied lettering and design in England.
In addition to pen and Western brush, Beth works in Chinese brush lettering and the book arts. She draws her inspiration from the natural world, her travels, and from the philosophies of various cultures. Beth’s art is on display at Artisans of Mancos. She also welcomes commissioned work.
One aspect of picture framing Herb enjoys is working with artists and enhancing their creations. He feels that his job is to assist the customer in appropriate mat and frame selection to complement the piece. In addition, he educates and advises on conservation techniques.
Formerly of Toh-A-Tin Gallery in Durango, Herb is self-employed. He attends National Picture Framing conferences yearly to keep up with advances in the profession. Herb takes great pride in every piece. “I prefer a simple, clean presentation that blends well with the art. I like the fact that I contribute to the preservation of memories–from funky posters to fine art.”
Beth and Herb have made the Mancos Valley their home since 1986.
