Bestseller/First to Read Opportunity
The Library offers a First to Read Opportunity for its patrons. A patron may request a bestselling or high interest book for the Library. The Library orders the requested book. When the book arrives and is processed, the patron pays for the book at the library’s discount rate plus $2 for processing. In exchange, the patron gets to read the book first and then donates the book to the Library for others to read and enjoy. This donation is also an eligible tax deduction.
The Colorado Library Courier is a service of the Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC) that delivers interlibrary loan materials between member libraries within the state and connects member libraries to the courier networks of other states. The courier service serves more than 380 libraries in Colorado, including the Dolores Public Library.
To place an interlibrary loan, please visit the Circulation Desk at the Dolores Public Library or call us at 970-882-4127. You may also request an interlibrary loan through your account at the Online Catalog. Interlibrary loans are generally free of charge, but occasionally a lending library will require a fee to loan the item out. If this is the case, you will be notified before your request is processed.
The State Wide Interlibrary Loan Fast Track (SWIFT) is the web-based electronic interlibrary loan requesting and tracking system that the Colorado State Library provides free of charge to all public, academic, school, and special libraries in Colorado, including the Dolores Public Library.
SWIFT gives libraries of any size or type the ability to enhance their services to their patrons. SWIFT participants include both rural libraries and large metropolitan libraries. As a SWIFT participant, your library can widen the amount of information available to your patrons. Your library may also use the patron-initiated ILL interface through the Colorado Virtual Library. This allows your patrons to use the Virtual Library to search and place requests for materials located throughout the state of Colorado.
SWIFT is the software vehicle that transmits those requests between borrowing and lending libraries. SWIFT keeps track of lending and borrowing, and provides reports of ILL activity for your library’s use. Once a request goes to SWIFT, the patron’s local library receives the request, where the software verifies and authenticates bibliographic information such as author, title, and ISBN of the requested item. The system creates a routing list of owning libraries and sends the authenticated request to the first library listed. If a library indicates that it cannot lend, the request is automatically forwarded to the next library and so on, until the request is filled. Once a library lends the item, system messages keep both parties up-to-date on the status: shipped, received, or returned.
